NFPUG organized the 3rd Mongolian National Rangeland Forum. Yesterday / August 11, 2019 / in Khovd, Khovd aimag, the center of the Western region, under the motto "Responsible nomads for green development." The forum was co-organized by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Khovd Aimag Citizens' Representative Khural, Khovd Aimag Governor's Office, Mongolian national federation of pasture user groups, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation's Green-Gold Animal Health Project, and Khovd Aimag Pastureland Users Association.
The purpose of this forum is to provide information, exchange experiences, and determine future participation for local herders, who have a responsibility to inherit to future generations by limiting the condition of rangeland, which is the basis of Mongolia's livestock production, limiting pasture degradation, introducing proper use, and increasing herder responsibility.
The forum was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Khovd aimag's Citizens' Representative Khural, Khovd aimag's Governor's Office, The Mongolian national federation of pasture user groups, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation's Green-Gold Animal Health Project, Khovd aimag's Pastureland Users Association, Khovd aimag's NAMEM and herders of 17 soums. During the forum, relevant officials provided information on the best practices, results, lessons learned from implementing the animal traceability system, legal regulations for rangeland use, the "Green Loan-Responsible Herder" soft loan in Chandmani soum, and the results of the western flora survey.
In addition, the "Mungun Sureg-Mungutei Malchin" program to increase herders livelihood freedom by sharing their best practices with herders responsible for pastures, the environment, and livestock, ways to bring the variety and quality of livestock products to market needs, and "Green Growth" Responsible nomads - Responsible Production" was discussed as part of the "Database for Traceability system of Livestock Raw Materials" as part of the technical innovation.
During the meeting, several suggestions were made to improve the rangeland condition and livestock structure of Khovd aimag, and the forum's recommendations were developed and presented. In addition, a competition for young herders on "Recognition of rangeland is the basis for sustainable use" and a ceremony to identify leaders of "Responsible nomads who respect rangeland" was held.
At the end of the forum, a fundraising campaign was launched to build a grove named after the 3rd National Pastureland Forum of Mongolia in support of the “10,000 Trees-Multi-Ethnic Gateway” project team, and the forum participants donated more than 800,000 MNT.
